Topic of the activity Robotic insect
Description of the activity Following the six phases of the Design Circle the first-year students have to design their own fantasy robotic insect. The students will have to use the 3d printer and laser cutter to alter an existing building kit for a dishwashing brush robot into their insect.

Last period this class was done with only one class, the period after we started the project with all remaining first-year classes (five in total). The students have gone through the first two phases of the design circle and are currently in the ideation phase. Besides combining their own ideas with those of the other students in their group they are also being introduced to digital design and to the building kit. After some short idea generating cycles the students will have to argue about their final design and about how to achieve (what to laser cut, what to 3d print, how to assemble, etc.) the final result.
